oh hello

It has been a while, but in that while I finished another quarter at school- it went well...i think.  then went to denver for a quick weekend and drove back.  I took notes of things I wanted to write out loud about:

It's rare you meet someone who has never been on a plane.  I actually feel bad that they have not experienced this social norm for so many other people.  There was a guy in front of me at the security checkpoint and everything about him was nervous.  He even said, "this is my first time flying."  Like Joey from Blossom- woah!  I don't know where he was going but he beeped through security and the Service Agent told him to take off his watch, so he did and threw it, literally threw it through the x-ray machine.  Tossed it on the belt and didn't put it in a bin.  Then he almost forgot it because I saw it coming out nearing a fall through the cracks.  Maybe it's not so weird that someone hasn't been on a plane.  I guess I've never driven a stick shift? not the same.

Secondly, I had a pair of scissors in my bag.   Not your 5 year old cousins scissors, these things could cut off an arm, or at least cause severe damage.  The agent took my bag, found the scissors I forgot about, and then shrugged and said they were acceptable size.  WHAT? I can kill someone with these, but I can't bring a bottle of water through? whack.

In world news,  Pirates took hostage of some ship- I wasn't really listening to the rest of the story or the facts because when I heard that pirates REALLY DO EXIST I laughed to myself and then replayed Pirates of the Caribbean in my head.  oh captain jack sparrow- he is definitely a mean hot.

a bike is born

I BUILT A BIKE!

not really, my new friend Noah built this bike.  He is a master bike builder, self taught with help from google and a few of his friends.  We got together and went to the bike shop, picked up the needed items to finish it and I now have a bike.  He was almost done but was having difficulty putting on the back wheel so he went out for a smoke break and I joined him.  His neighbors across the ally were outside too.  Let me just paint you this picture:

Two guys, mid to late twenties totally bike enthusiasts with long hair and leaf tobacco.  Their backyard where they were building these bikes was amazing.  First of all, there was a plastic horse in a tree.  Their "shed" was made up of old wooden signs and billboards and strewn across the whole place were bikes.  Every color size shape that you have ever seen.  It was a bike chop shop.  We were having trouble with my bike so I suggested we go over and ask for help, MN nice right? Noah, kind of shy, said he didn't know them.  So me, not that shy, walked over and asked them.  They are now Noah's new best friends.

These two guys live in this house and their landlord is pretty famous on the west bank for painting all these signs.  He does them everywhere and then when the signs are taken down he puts them in his backyard.  Some of his work was in the Mighty Ducks- if you remember which was filmed here.  Also, the newest Cohen brothers movie that is due out this summer has an old Rambler in it, which is in this backyard.  Crazy stuff.

Later on this evening I opened a fortune cookie, it said that a stranger who I meet today will have a big impact.

Point of the story:
I met Noah on craigslist, he built me a bike, bike had issues, we met his neighbors, neighbors have a famous backyard.  This is how it goes.  You need to meet people to get somewhere to learn something and find what you are looking for.  The connection I made today might end today, but it also might go somewhere else.  It's interesting to meet people who have no idea who you are but help you out.  Our commonality was a bike, a bike that led to a conversation to find out about someone else's life.  I'm nosy and look where it gets me.

My Luck

Today is Saturday, post Britney Spears concert.  It was stellar.  Yesterday, I woke up, went to Urban Bean and got a little coffee-  the furley is the best.  Sadly I spilled the entire cup all over the floor and counter before I had the chance to drink any.  I knew that if this was the first thing that happened to me yesterday, the rest of my day will probably follow.  And it did.

Work was fine, I managed to only spill one container of Bloody Mary mix and a cup of coffee. Fast forward to Britney:
Managed to completely miss the Pussycat dolls and enter our *suite when Brits pre-show entertainers were performing.  The suite was packed and there was a.) no unlimited food as promised and paid for and b.) no unlimited drinks as promised and paid for.  I think at this point I was very close to morphing into DaBrat -------->
But I stopped myself, only because I was there to see Miss Spears.

Brit came on stage and it was amazing until some other girls in our suite with no association to my gang decided that I was standing in their spot.  Really? Because my ticket says I can be anywhere I want in this suite.  We don't have seats you idiots.  Then a beer was dumped onto my head.  An entire beer.

The rest of the night was filled with much needed dancing and laughing and reverting back to a 15 year old hormone raged girl.  Perfect Britney show with more drama than the Guiding Light on CBS which is being cancelled after 72 years.  Pictures to follow.

it had to happen sometime

As my first post, I am proud to say that I will be talking about Britney Spears.  This Friday is her concert, which I will be in attendance.  Needless to say I am pumped.   Yeah, I know how much of a wreck this girl is, but she represents stages of my life.  Crucial developments that allow me to hear one of her songs and reminisce to my youth.

Hit Me Baby One More Time:
This song came out in 1998, so do a little math and I was REALLY young.  I owned an Old Navy track suit and at birthday parties I got to play sporty spice in our music vids.  Also, Britney inspired me to wear a white button up shirt to school with, picture this, my Starter-esque jacket that said FILS and my timberland work boots with tear away athletic pants.  Yes, I did dress myself.

Oops!...I did it again:
Britney could not have made this song/ her following movie Crossroads at a better time.  I was in an experimental phase and loved doing crazy crap with my hair/clothes/makeup.  I convinced some of my classmates I was colorblind which made up for the purposely mismatched clothes I wore.  People believed me because I was "Bethany- the crazy girl."  To make it more awkward this was peak brace face.  If I had a picture of this I would consider putting it up until I remembered how disgusting I looked.  It was my "ug" (ugly) phase, everyone has one...or three.

Cry Me a River:
The break up between Spears and Timberlake might have been one of the best things JT could have done for himself.  He came out with "Cry Me a River" which may have launched his career as solo-artist.  I'm just saying.

Fast Times:
Soooo Brit-brit and madonna made out, she married her crazy backup dancer and produced a few offspring, shaved her head, showed her britney, and here we are post rehab and aweful Matt Lauer interview at the Circus tour.  This Friday will be amazing.  I am wearing something shiny and have been thinking about some eye glitter.  Update to follow.
